5/1/2009: Argh! This is driving me nuts! The server spontaneously rebooted twice tonight! I think it might be the UPS… Why is it that consumer grade UPS’s are so terrible that they cause more interruptions than they prevent? What a piece of shit. Anyway, I hope that it doesn’t happen again.
4/30/2009: Success (in a sense). The server rebooted itself today, but the weather daemons came right back up! Now, to figure out why the server keeps rebooting…
4/27/2009: The brief down time today is due to me modifying the boot-up scripts so that they can detect an unintended reboot. When this happens they clean up the mess left by an improper shutdown. It doesn’t solve the main problem of spontaneous reboots, but at least the weather feed will come back up.
4/27/2009: The server rebooted itself again (which was the cause of the 2/24 incident). I have the daemon running again, but the long-term solution is to fix the reboots. Also, when a reboot does happen, I’ll need to figure out how to update the init scripts to delete the stale PID files.
4/24/2009: The weather daemon died some time last night. I don’t know why, but it’s back up now. There was about 14 hours of lost data.
Hey will, was brought here from your facebook post… cool stuff! As for weather, may I suggest a plot of weekly cumulative rain — this can be useful for people who keep/water plants.
That is a good idea. I’m not really sure how to do it, but I’ll look into it. All the graphs and stuff are kinda “pre-canned” by the software I’m using. It is open source, so if I get some free time I can look into it. There is another site that has much more data, though a lot of it is redundant and disorganized. It may give you some info that is more useful:

Specifically, at the bottom of the page, there is the “NOAA Climatological Summaries”, and the monthly report has a row per day and a rain column. That may be something that you could use in a script of some kind.
